Virtual Dedicated Hosting

Most of us today are familiar with shared web hosting which is a service that allows you to rent a chunk of space on a server which is shared among many other users. Although it is relatively inexpensive and is good for people looking to host small information sites, it does have certain disadvantages.

There is likely to be e-mail delivery problems because of spam complaints against other sites on the same server. Often, your site slows down or stops when someone else is conducting heavy database work on your server. You might even find your site going down because of a denial of service attack against someone else hosting, hacking or perhaps a piracy related material on your server.

These hassles can be avoided by moving up to virtual dedicated hosting.

A virtual dedicated server lets you run your sites just like your own "dedicated" server, except it is cheaper because you are really just using part of a server that has been split into multiple virtual dedicated servers. The cost starts at only $30 a month and you get a much large chunk of bandwidth compared to shared hosting, sans the problems of a shared host. Moreover, you can get multiple IP addresses that are exclusive to your sites.

The downside, if you consider it as that is, you may spend a bit more on hosting each month. And you will need to be more technically proficient to administer the server. It does require some time to learn, but some Linux coaching will ensure that. If you are not familiar with Linux, look for other hosting providers will offer premium support and guidance on virtual dedicated hosting. With the increased speed and bandwidth that a virtual dedicated host offers and without the shared hosting headaches, it is definitely a wiser move.
